Twenty years ago, Sportsman Steel Safes launched a division called Pentagon Safes with an ambitious goal: build the greatest, most complex vault on the market — something truly different from anything else available. While competitors talked about building the best vault, we set out to do something revolutionary, and we did. We started with a residential vault door and engineered it around one hard truth learned over half a century in business: nearly every attempted break-in targets the center of the door, what we call the vital cut area. So we built the Pentagon Vault to defend exactly that point. First, we added a 1/4” stainless steel torch-resistant chest-plate. So if a burglar attempts to torch that area, they’re stopped dead in their tracks. Second, we embedded 9-gauge expanded metal throughout the entire door. It’s a crisscrossing steel mesh that eats Sawzall blades alive. A normal vault door yields slowly to a reciprocating saw, but expanded metal chews the blade to pieces, forcing the burglar to swap it out — and most don’t carry a second one. The result is a vault door that doesn’t just resist attack — it defeats it. And now, twenty years later, every Pentagon Vault carries these features. Revolutionary then, still one of a kind today.
